The Brockman Gallery Archives with Dale Brockman Davis

Member Event

All Leadership Circle supporters and members at the $750 level and higher are invited to explore the Brockman Gallery archives at the Los Angeles Central Library with artist and educator Dale Brockman Davis.

Founded in 1967 in Leimert Park by brothers Alonzo Davis and Dale Brockman Davis, the Brockman Gallery was at the center of a community of Black artists in Los Angeles. The gallery exhibited and provided support to artists such as David Hammons, Samella Lewis, John Outterbridge, Noah Purifoy, Betye Saar, and Charles White.

In this unique event, Dale Brockman Davis will share the history of the gallery through archival materials held in the library's special collections. Selections from the archives are also currently on view at MOCA Grand Avenue in the exhibition Mapping an Art World: Los Angeles in the 1970s-80s.

An invitation with event details will be emailed to members at the $750 level and above. Memberships can be purchased or renewed online. If you would like to upgrade an existing membership, please contact the Membership Department at membership@moca.org.
