SCREEN: MAP POINTZ is a special evening, the first public presentation of a set of video works from artist Guadalupe Rosales' Map Pointz archive. The Map Pointz archive contains rich imagery of 90’s raves and party crews from across Southern California. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Rosales, artist Rafa Esparza and artist Sebastian Hernandez on the archive, detailing its impact on culture internationally, and in Los Angeles. Guadalupe Rosales (USA b. 1980) is an artist based in Los Angeles. She is the founder and operator of Veteranas & Rucas and Map Pointz, digital archives accessible through Instagram. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at Aperture Foundation, New York; The Vincent Price Art Museum, Monterey Park; Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles; Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha; Spazio Maiocchi, Milan; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Her work has been written about in The Los Angeles Times, Artsy, and Artforum. She has lectured at numerous museums and academic institutions, including the University of California, Los Angeles; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; New Museum, New York; New York University, New York; and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, New York. Rosales received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016.
Priority tickets are available to MOCA members at any time on the day of the program. Thirty minutes before the program begins tickets will be released to non-members. One ticket per person on a first come, first served basis. Early arrival is recommended.
