Rituals
Procession, Poetry Reading, and Book Launch with Senon Williams

MOCA Store

Join the MOCA Store for an exciting afternoon celebrating Los Angeles–based artist Senon Williams’s new artist publication, Rituals (Lauren Powell Projects and After Purchase Keep or Gift Pub. Co., 2024). Starting at sunset, at MOCA Grand, the artist and attendees will travel on foot through downtown L.A., ending their journey at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. There, on the Aileen Getty Plaza, there will be an outdoor book sale and signing, as well as a public viewing of artworks and relevant poetry readings by Mandy Kahn, Ari Salka, and Senon Williams.

The procession will include six sunset paintings carried on a specially crafted pole-sling, which converts into a free-standing A-frame for viewing the work. The act of carrying the paintings, which will be shared among those walking, forges a profound connection and fosters a sense of community. Each painting portrays scenes of society as expansive fields, with singular figures emerging from the masses, a testament to the complexities of human interaction. These individual figures embody both leadership and oppression, symbolizing the dynamics of power and control within civilization.

Senon Williams's artist publication, Rituals, captures previous painting processions from Lauren Powell Projects gallery to Griffith Park during spring and fall 2023. The edition is limited to 100 copies, and each unique unbound book includes 6 fine art prints.
