Open House: Gala Porras-Kim is the second iteration of this exhibition series drawing from MOCA’s renowned permanent collection. Open House invites Los Angeles–based artists to organize exhibitions drawn from the museum’s extensive collection of objects. Porras-Kim’s practice explores how the history of art is built out of its remnants and how fragments of information are often miscategorized. For this exhibition, the artist explores, vis-à-vis MOCA’s collection, how our indexes or records are often flawed or misdirected. Porras-Kim joins UCLA Professor of Art History and Conservation of Material Culture Glenn Wharton and MOCA Assistant Curator and Manager of Publications Bryan Barcena in a conversation about the exhibition.
