First Friday
Ashley Younniä of The Children of Sound

Join us for an evening of sounds curated by Ashley Younniä of The Children of Sound at The Geffen! Ashley Younniä is a New Jersey-born, LA-based DJ who dives into the expansion of sound as an affirmation of self and the spiritual healing power of house music. Growing up dancing in the parks and on stage, she spent most of her upbringing waking up to the beat of house music. She draws inspiration from the energy of house, gospel house, disco and high-affirming power vocals, empowering us all to live freely and openly with pure love. She shouts loudly and proudly that house music is black music, and her DJ sets are an ode to the aunties and uncles still dancing in the parks.

The program is presented as part of First Friday at MOCA Geffen, offering special programming and free admission to special exhibitions from 5–8pm on the first Friday of every month.

This program is organized by Justen Leroy, Director of Public Programs and Community Outreach, and Alitzah Oros, Public Programming Associate, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
