The Idea of Architecture

Lecture

Join us for discussions on architecture with Sharon Johnston, Michael Maltzan, and François Perrin. Johnston maintains a deep commitment to architecture history, while collaborating with an extensive network of contemporary artists, graphic designers, and writers to broaden the breadth of design research. Maltzan’s celebrated Star Apartments, a mixed-use complex of 102 apartments for the Skid Row Housing Trust, explores how architecture can create new possibilities for a dramatically underserved population as well as for the city at large. Perrin’s architectural projects are concerned with site-specificity and local and sustainable systems; Perrin is also a curator, educator, and noted Yves Klein scholar. These talks are part of a series of in-gallery programs focusing on core ideas in the exhibition Doug Aitken: Electric Earth.
