In Person: James Benning, introduced with a reading by Rachel Kushner
For over forty years, James Benning has created a cinema whose grace and clarity is equaled only by the elegance of its structures. His new film, READERS (2017), is no exception. Composed of just four shots in which Clara McHale-Ribot, Rachel Kushner, Richard Hebdige, and Simone Forti read quietly to themselves, the film offers portraits of its subjects while simultaneously serving as a mirror for the viewers, who perform a parallel stillness.
