MOCA Curator Anna Katz leads a walkthrough of With Pleasure: Pattern and Decoration in American Art 1972–1985, explicating Pattern and Decoration artists’ embrace of the much-maligned category of the decorative. Offering insight into the social context that gave rise to their refusal of the dominance and orthodoxy of modernist art, Katz will discuss the craft-based practices and patterned compositions of such artists as Miriam Schapiro, Joyce Kozloff, Faith Ringgold, as well as the history of the Pattern and Decoration movement and its often overlooked place in contemporary art.
Priority tickets are available to MOCA members at any time on the day of the program. Thirty minutes before the program begins tickets will be released to non-members. One ticket per person on a first come, first served basis. Early arrival is recommended.
