This is the first exhibition devoted solely to MOCA’s monographic holdings of paintings by the great New York School–artist Mark Rothko, whose transcendent, luminous color-field paintings made a significant mark on 1950s abstract expressionism in the United States. With eight major paintings, the exhibition features key selections from the museum’s permanent collection representing various stages of Rothko’s career.
